Although there are over 60 species of eagles, only two can be found in the United States and Canada--the Bald Eagle and the Golden Eagle.  Eagles have been considered sacred by many groups including several Native American tribes.  In Christian art, Saint John is often depicted as an eagle.  The Bald Eagle was considered such a majestic bird by our forefathers that, after considerable debate, it was selected over the wild turkey to be the national bird for the United States of America.
